Artist Introduction

Project Concept
BREATHING WIND explores the movement of palm trees in the wind and the forces that arise from it. The work is situated in a bitter palm grove stretching along a gentle slope between a tea plantation and a pomelo plantation. The exceptionally slender palms appear both fragile and resilient. Their swaying in the wind forms the basis of the installation.
Although the palms were originally planted as a plantation, they no longer follow a strict geometric grid. Over time, some trees have disappeared, creating gaps and irregular spacing. The work embraces this evolved structure and follows the natural character of the existing constellation of trees rather than imposing a new order upon it.
Approximately 200 red-orange mesh fabric elements (1.20 m × 80 cm) are suspended with ropes between pairs of palm trees. The color carries a deep cultural significance in the region and creates a vivid contrast against the green landscape of the plantation. These connections make the trees’ movements visible, tracing the forces of the wind as a dynamic pattern in space.
Depending on wind conditions, viewpoint, and position within the grove, the appearance of the installation continuously changes. The brightly colored elements create ever-shifting spatial constellations and add a vibrant visual energy to the work. A narrow path through the palm grove invites visitors to immerse themselves in this reimagined landscape and to experience the relationship between nature, movement, and space firsthand.
