Project Concept

Set amidst the lush and nurturing landscape of Taitung’s East Rift Valley, this installation serves as a vibrant totem of hope and rebirth. The artwork depicts a surreal lifecycle where growth is celebrated, not for its perfection, but for its persistence.

The presence of intentional “voids” (or holes) throughout the winding stems acknowledges that the journey of personal evolution is inherently imperfect and often fraught with struggle. As the flora evolves it melts, shedding their outer layers, symbolizing the necessary act of emotional shedding—the continuous process of discarding the old to fuel the vibrant emergence of the new.

Rising from this cycle of transformation is an “other-worldly” flora, an alien-like sprout that feels both exotic and strangely at home in Taiwan’s rich ecological tapestry. This otherworldly aesthetic mirrors the unique path of every individual, proving that even the most “exotic” or unconventional spirits can thrive anywhere with enough nurturing and community support. As the flora evolves, an “eye” slowly emerges to finally gaze upwards towards the sky, representing a final, conscious awakening. It serves as a reminder that despite our scars and the holes left by our history, we are designed to look upward, evolving into something singular, colorful, and resiliently alive.

Do not linger to gather flowers to keep them, but walk on, for flowers will keep themselves blooming all your way.
《漂鳥集》No.102
